Foundation Special Events

Thank you to all of our walkers, donors and sponsors who supported the 2010 Walk for Awareness! Nearly 700 walkers participated in the event on Sunday, October 24, 2010 and helped raise more than $80,000 so far for The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center.

History of the Walk

Since 1999, when survivor Jill Fader and her husband, then-mayor Paul T. Fader, founded the event, the 5-K walk has touched the lives of countless people from the Englewood area and beyond. Supporters contribute through walking, walker sponsorships, event sponsorships, sales of Walk T-shirts and memorabilia, and donations of money and goods.

Susan Lucianna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. Susan refused to put her life on hold and adopted Molly, a Cavalier King Charles Puppy, making the dog a cherished part of her life and symbol of hope for the future.  Susan’s sister, Diane Lucianna, continues to care for Molly, and started the Dog Walk in 2008 to pay tribute to Susan and keep her memory alive.

More than $950,000 has been raised since the first Walk, funding vital programs and services such as mammograms, genetic counseling and fine needle aspirations for uninsured and under-insured women, and state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment for the Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center.
