Steps For Survival
More than 150 people supported the Fifth Annual Steps for Survival on Thursday, October 7, 2010. Guests enjoyed an evening of fun at Alpine Country Club with great food, a silent auction, a tricky tray auction and casino games.
Steps for Survival has become a landmark event for cancer survivors, their families and their healthcare providers. The annual gala during Breast Cancer Awareness Month raises funds for The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, and perhaps more importantly, provides an opportunity for everyone to spend a high-spirited evening together celebrating life – and one another.
“I’m particularly excited about this year’s Steps for Survival,” says Audrey Fey, co-founder of the event. “We want people to see it as an opportunity to dress up, kick up their heels, and have a fun, over-the-top kind of evening. That’s why we decided to do Casino Night as the theme – to emphasize that even though cancer is high stakes, it doesn’t have to dampen your spirits.”
Co-founder Diane Trezza adds, “Steps for Survival really has taken on a life of its own. Although it started out as an idea to support oncology patients, in the end it’s become just as important an experience for all of the many people who have joined together to make the event happen. We’re so excited to invite everyone to Casino Night and spend a memorable evening sharing in wonderful company.”Audrey and Diane teamed up in 2006 to do something special and a little different for breast cancer patients. The practices at which the two women work, the offices of plastic surgeon Dr. Richard D’Amico and oncologists Drs. Forte, Schleider, Attas, Condemi, Morrison and Kim, respectively, share many patients, and now share the responsibility and honor of sponsoring the event as well.
Committee members are Diane Trezza, Audrey Fey, Cheryl Hodges, Beth Nadel, Anne VanDyke and Sabine Boehle.
